Kelly Clarkson, who recently said she really “digs the mom thing,” is a woman of her word: sheâ€s pregnant!

The singer, 31, and her husband Brandon Blackstock are expecting their first child together, Clarkson announced Tuesday on Twitter.

“Iâ€m pregnant!!! Brandon and I are so excited! Best early Christmas present ever,” she Tweeted.

The big news comes four weeks after she and Blackstock ditched their lavish wedding plans and instead tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Tennessee.

Amidst rumors of a baby on the way, Clarkson hinted at the possibility during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show.

“We are not announcing anything right now! Weâ€re not, no,” she said with a smile. “Practice makes perfect! Weâ€re trying, trying, trying … like rabbits!”

Although itâ€s her first pregnancy, Clarkson is no stranger to parenthood, having spent ample time with Seth, 6, and Savannah, 12, Blackstockâ€s children from a previous relationship.

“My kids love her,” Blackstockâ€s ex-wife Melissa told PEOPLE in October. “I couldnâ€t ask for a better stepmother for my children.”

At the time the American Idol winner Tweeted her engagement news, she called her then future husband “the greatest man ever.”

Kelly Clarkson is married!

After plenty of speculation about whether she and fiancé Brandon Blackstock would elope after they canceled their original wedding plans, Clarkson confirmed the happy news via social media on Monday, Tweeting, “I’m officially Mrs. Blackstock :) We got married yesterday at Blackberry Farms in TN, the most beautiful place ever!”

The singer shared two photos from her big day, for which she donned a long-sleeved lace gown.

Back in February, she described what she would wear at her nuptials as “my personality in a dress. A little rock ‘n’ roll. A little tattered. Nothing like a princess thing!

Up until her December 2012 engagement to Blackstock, 35, (who has two children, Savannah, 11, and Seth, 7, from a previous marriage), the pop singer wasn’t sure she’d ever get married.

“I’ve only had three other boyfriends that I dated, and not really seriously,” Clarkson, 31, told PEOPLE earlier this year. But when she met the music manager at a rehearsal for the American Country Music Awards in 2006, she immediately thought he could be someone special. “This guy walks by, making everybody laugh. I said, ‘I’m gonna end up with him. I know it,’ ” she said.

The duo had originally planned to have an “earthy” outdoor wedding in the backyard of the Nashville home that they share, but by the summer the planning had become too much and they called it off, opting instead for a low-key event.

“Our whole life is a celebration,” the former American Idol winner said in August. “That’s what we kept laughing about. We don’t need another day where we throw a big party. We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.”

Next up for the couple? A baby. Clarkson has made no secret of the fact that she’s ready to start a family as soon as possible.

“When you get married, it’s like official,” she told PEOPLE last month. “You’re starting a family and we want to have more children, so we’re just excited.”

Kelly Clarkson’s wait for a ring is over.

“I’M ENGAGED!!!!!” she announced Saturday on Twitter. “I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever.”

The Grammy-nominated pop star, 30, and freshly minted fiancé Brandon Blackstock, a Nashville-based talent manager, began dating a year ago. Blackstock is the son of Clarkson’s manager, Narvel Blackstock, who is married to Reba McEntire.

Earlier this year Clarkson joked that she was so happy it was “ruining my creativity” and that she was now “writing all this happy” stuff.

The only thing that had been missing, she said in November, was the wedding bling, and even then she was sure it would be arriving. As for her ceremony plans, she told Ellen DeGeneres: “We will totally, probably elope.”
